Shops that pair high-end coffee with edgy, adrenaline-boosting activities are becoming a Twin Cities hallmark. We've got coffee and motorcycles (Bob's Java Hut), coffee and serious biking (Angry Catfish), and now coffee and that artistic test of pain-endurance called getting serious tattoos.

At Defiant Tattoo and Caffeine Bar, recently opened in the heart of the Lyn-Lake neighborhood in Minneapolis, you can sip standard coffee offerings or some of the most radically caffeinated beverages in Minnesota ("Jet Fuel " is espresso with twice the caffeine; "X-Rated Caffeinator" is house coffee with one or two shots of Jet Fuel) while watching portions of people's bodies turn into full-color tapestries. Then, boosted by your java high, you can go get a tat yourself.
