The Line's Managing Photographer, Bill Kelley, worked in the old Stroh's brewery in Saint Paul a couple of decades ago and is an avid home-brewer these days, so he knows what grain malts and bright tanks are--in short, he knew what he was looking at as he explored the beer-making process in three of our local craft beer/microbrew establishments--Flat Earth Brewing in Saint Paul's West Seventh neighborhood, Surly Brewing in Brooklyn Center, and Fulton Beer in Minneapolis' Warehouse District.
He traced the process by which the everyday alchemists in these indie breweries turn the fruits of the earth into drinkable gold. Here's his visual record of that process, from grain to growler.
